November Favorites (Stocking-Stuffer Friendly!) w/Coupon Codes…

I feel like it’s been a while since I did a ‘favorites’ sort of post, but I have one for you now. SO THERE! 😉

I’m in love with the following products, some of which I picked up with my own fair hand, some of which I received in subscription boxes. DISCLAIMER: I’m not sure the R.A.L in “Audrey” is quite worthy of being a ‘favorite.’ I’ve included it because I’ve literally worn it every day since I bought it, so I MUST like it, right? I guess so, but I’m not sure I’m as psyched about it as everyone else on the blogosphere. Am I missing something? I’ve included a piccie of myself wearing it, and I’d love you to tell me if it looks good or if I’m just fooling myself!

Secondly, if you do nothing else scroll to the end of the post for some info. about a gorgeous eyeshadow that’s a GWP offer this month…

O.K, let’s go! Here’s a piccie of my favs. for this month. Apologies for the blurriness. I’m still using a crappy old cameraphone, because I’m, er, lazy…

Going clockwise…

1) Deep Steep Honeydew and Spearmint Moisturestick: I actually picked this up today at T.J Maxx (see my Black Friday post) but I love, love, LOVE it, and I’m sure I’ll be using it constantly. It smells fresh and lovely and contains lots of hydrating butters and oils. It retails for $5.95 at the Deep Steep website, but I got it at T.J Maxx for $1.99.

2) Mullein and Sparrow Cheek and Lip Tint: Woe is me, because although my Vegancuts insert card stated this was $10.00 full-size, it actually retails on their website for $22.00. I’m assuming I received a smaller size in my Vegancuts box. (Update – nope. It’s 1oz full-size) Anyway, I am IN LOVE with this product. Not only does it leave the glossiest, dewiest, most perfectly rose-tinted shine on lips and cheeks, it smells amazing. You know those stores that sell incense and it’s like walking into a hippy-den? It smells like that! Checking out the ingredients I discovered this was because it contains Patchouli oil. You don’t see Patchouli used much these days, but it should be, because it’s a gorgeous scent. All day you’ll get wafts of Patchouli if you wear this on your cheeks, and if you’re a child of the 70’s you’ll know how great that is! Peace out, man. Buy it at

3) The Wonderseed Hemp Handcream (Lavender Spring): I received this in my Kloverbox, and I’ve used it every day since. Hemp seed oil is super moisturizing but this smells strongly of lavender so if you’re not into that, this isn’t for you. I, on the other hand, adore lavender, and I use it right before bed to keep pinkies soft and to help me sleep…($12.95 – COUPON CODE: save 20% with code KLOVER20

4) Red Apple Lipstick in “Audrey.” Right, here I go with the piccie:

AudreyIs this what it looks like on you? It’s just a lot more subtle than I thought it’d be…I do like it though, because it’s creamy, glossy, and very wearable…a neutral medium-pink shade. I heard through the grapevine there’s a COUPON CODE: Thanksgiving sale, save 5% using this code: GOBBLE

5) Kosmatology Hand Sanitizer in Grapefruit and Clove. Another Kloverbox goody. I’ve been using this every day…as a teacher, germs are just one marked essay away, and I’ve already gotten sick this month so now I’m being extra careful. This contains alcohol but no nasties, and I love the scent. Very Christmassy, because of the citrus-clove combo. ($3.99 – COUPON CODE: save 20% using coupon code Klover20. Expires 12/31/14

6) The All-Natural Face DivaStix in Black Kohl. Another awesome Vegancuts find! At first I was like, NOPE. Because when I dragged it under the eye it was super bumpy and blotchy and looked terrrrible. But then I had a brainwave and smudged it with an eyeliner brush, and the result was gorgeous. Very natural looking. Here’s a couple of piccies:

IMG_1917 (2)Nice, huh? But yeah, it does need a proper smudge. I used a sharp-edged flat brush because you have to push it up into the lashline as well. This costs a weirdly specific $4.88 at ANF’s website: And apparently they double as eyeshadows (although not this color, unless the goth look is what you’re after!).

7. Glamourdoll Mineral Eyeshadow in “Poodles.” Have you tried the Glamourdoll brand yet? If not, you should! Their all-natural mineral products are just lovely, and I encourage you to check out the range at Pretty soon I’ll be swatching a whole host of their eyeshadows which I bought in a sample package, but this is my favorite thus far…it’s called “Poodles,” and it’s a light pinky shimmer, with a touch of lilac. Here’s a swatch:

PoodlesIsn’t that gorgeous? And here’s some GREAT news! “Poodles” is Glamour Doll Eyes’ “Gift With Purchase” ($10.00 minimum) this month! ($6.00 value). I am also very keen on their colors “Mushroom” and “Graves in May.” GORGEOUS colors, both.

I hope that made your Black Friday! Leave your thoughts/questions/comments in the box below!

Kloverbox November 2014 Review!

Hi Peeps!

First of all, what do you think about the new format for my blog?! My hubby, Josh, told me that the other theme (‘Forever’) didn’t convey “my personality” (ominous) and that he thought this one was more fun. So, we’ll see if it grows on me! It’s tough – I’m kind of used the old format.

Anyway, enough rambling. Today’s review is of a new-ish green/eco-friendly subscription box called Kloverbox. Unlike Petit Vour and Vegan Cuts, the items in Kloverbox are more ‘lifestyle’ products; not just limited to skincare and makeup. This piqued my interest, because I’m trying to be greener in other aspects of my life as well as beauty. Wouldn’t anything else be hypocrisy? So I was keen to try Kloverbox’s offerings. A 25% off coupon from their Twitter feed meant I got to try this box a bit cheaper than the usual $25.00. That sounds like a lot, and it is, but the nice twist to Kloverbox is that you can buy just one box when you feel like it, or subscribe for savings: a 6 month subscription = $22.50 a month, which is just a dollar more than Vegancuts. And I like the fact that you can buy one box every so often, if you fancy treating yourself.

So, let’s take a peek inside the box, shall we?

The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was a very, VERY strong apple scent! That’s because of the SoyWerks Appletosh Soy Candle (full-size, value $5.00). It’s a GORGEOUS tart-sweet appley scent, and is now sitting on my coffee table making the whole room smell like apples. I also love that it’s 100% vegan and soy wax, and handmade.

Here’s a piccie:

But wait! Something else in the box was smelling amazing! The next thing I pulled out was a Cocoa-Mint Handmade Soap from Kloverbox’s featured Etsy shop of the month, Small Beauty Keys. First off, I love the fact that small shops are being featured in their box, but I also just loved the scent of this soap. It’s intensely minty, and I’m sure will tingle a bit in the shower. YUM! (full-size, value $5.00)

I kept pulling stuff out; it was like Christmas. Here are the other items included:

The Wonder Seed Hemp Hand Cream (full-size, value $12.95). This hand-cream smells intensely of lavender. Love it.

Lavina 100% Pure Argan Oil (sample, value $2.14). I already own argan oil, but it’s nice to have a travel-size.

Kosmatology Hand Sanitizer (full-size, value $3.99). Scented with grapefruit and clove, this hand sanitizer contains no triclosan or chemical thickeners. And it smells yummy.

Love Reusable Bags (full-size, value $13.95) As you can see from the picture, this is a cute and stylish lunch tote lined with food-safe PEVA lining. I like the Tartan; reminds me of a wonderful visit to Scotland I took a few years back…och aye!

Jolly Oak Dark Chocolate Coconut Raisin Granola (sample, value $2.50) I love dark chocolate and coconut anything, so this is a great sample for me to try.

And finally, here’s a pic of all the goodies (excepting the candle).

My favorite products thus far are the candle (incredibly scented – I’m sitting on my sofa and keep getting whiffs of apple!) and the lavender handcream, which was great timing as my hands have been really dry lately. Plus, I love lavender. But honestly, I love everything in the box. If I could afford another subscription, I would totally get this one, but it’s nice to know I don’t have to subscribe and can just treat myself now and again. As for value for money, the total value of this box is definitely more than $25.00, and definitely a lot more than the $22.50 you’d pay for a 6 month subscription.

Kloverbox have been getting some great buzz in the blogosphere, but now it also gets…the Liv seal of approval!!

Petit Vour October ’14 Review…and Purple-ish Hair!

Hi friends!

First off (and, of course, most importantly!) what do you think of my new hair color? I don’t think the bright coral cardigan really does it any favors, but you get the idea. I was just tired of my regular brown and wanted something more cold-weather appropriate. The dye is Aveda brand…not chemical-free, but better than most. And if you’re interested to know, I’m wearing Red Apple lipstick in Boys ‘N Berry (though it doesn’t really show up here).

purple hairNow onto other more important matters. Finally, my Petit Vour review!! I know it’s now November and this is shockingly late, but a) I’m lazy and b) I’m lazy. Honestly, I was just lazy about taking the photo! But here we go:

petit vour octoberThe theme for October was “Beauty Thrillers,” but, as we all know, the theme is just an excuse for a pretty insert card 🙂

The main disappointment in this box for me was the Pacifica Devocean Natural Lipstick (top left). The formula seemed nice, and I’m a big Pacifica fan, but the color was atrocious on me. It was called “Tenderheart,” and was a kind of nude-brown color that made me look like a plague victim. It’d probably look quite nice on people with darker skin tones than mine though. (full-size $14.00)

I really liked the Flo and Theo Body Butter (top right) It was a gorgeous lemony scent, made with cocoa and shea butter. Very thick – a little goes a long way, but I appreciated the whipped texture which made it paradoxically light as well, and fun to use. (full-size $28.00)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the S.W. Basics makeup remover (bottom right). I’ve been struggling to find a decent makeup remover, and for a while I tried using my pure jojoba oil. However, it made my eyes go all blurry! This doesn’t, even though it’s only made with three oils: olive, jojoba, and sweet almond. Perhaps it’s the formulation, or the types of oils used, but it works a lot better than my pure oil experiment. (full-size $14-28.00)

Finally, another dud: the Forager Botanicals Eau de Parfum in the scent “Nectar” (bottom left). The scent just didn’t appeal to me, as it seemed kind of alcohol smelling. (full-size: a whopping $98.00). I’ll be sticking to my Pacifica Island Vanilla Solid Perfume thank you very much!
Well, folks, that’s it from me. I’ll be back soon with a Red Apple lipsticks review, and my Liebster award acceptance blurb!

Thanks for following, commenting etc! And now you can follow me on Twitter as well!

Vegan Cuts Beauty Box, October 2014 Review!

Oh, happy days! My “Vegan Cuts” Beauty Box arrived yesterday!

vegan cuts

There were lots of curly paper shavings in the box as packing, but I threw ’em away. I also, accidentally, threw away the info. card. What’s wrong with me?!

I’ve really been enjoying Vegan Cuts (though not quite as much as Petit Vour). This is only my second box, but I’ve already fallen in love with one of the products: the Quiet Mind Serum by Lotus Wei. This is a facial/body serum chock-full of exotic sounding ingredients such as ‘gem essence of Kyanite,’ and ‘hand-collected flower essences of Bird of Paradise.’ It’s like reading a lost verse from Kubla-Khan. The dominant scent, however, is geranium, and it’s pungent stuff. Although ostensibly for your face you can also wear it as a perfume or rub it on your décolleté. It’s basically like wearing an essential oil, as it’s very strong smelling, but I love that. The scent is so calm and relaxing, I’ve been wearing it before bed and sleeping like a dream. I even take it to work for those stressful moments. I’ll definitely be repurchasing. My 10 ml sample is worth $10.00 so it’s pricey…but worth it!

quiet mind I was less excited by the rest of the box. I’m curious to try the Floss Gloss Nail Lacquer, but not too stoked about the brown shade.

I quite like Lovinah’s Coffee Bean-illa Detox Body Scrub, but the coffee smell is a bit pungent.

Lastly, the cute pink bag contains a travel kit of skincare minis from the Hylunia brand. I’m saving these for a trip to England around Christmas time, but the all-important sniff test rendered me unimpressed…no scent, and I like my scents! Nice to try out a whole range from a brand though.

vegan cuts beauty subscription box review: september 2014 unboxing

My first Vegan Cuts box arrived today! Woo-hoo! Here’s a piccie – apologies for the slightly blurry factor. I’m new to all this!

vegan cuts 2I was excited for this first unboxing, having heard great things about the company. I paid 20 bucks, and I was keen to see if I made my money back!

I haven’t tried all of the items yet, but here are my first thoughts on the selection and value:

1. Suncoat mascara (full-size! worth $14.99)

Wow- so excited to get a 100% all-natural mascara! I tried this, and it works, but does it compare to my Smashbox brand mascara? Er, nope. It’s actually made with sugar, and it does feel a bit sticky on. However, it does the job OK and it is nice to know that my lashes aren’t covered in chemicals.

2. Lunatick Cosmetic Lab Eyeshadow

You can see from my piccie that the sample size is pretty decent (although that glass jar is only about a quarter full). I tried this, and I love it! It’s a loose powder that is talc free. My color is a beautiful shimmer bronze with little silver glitter specks. We’ll have to see about staying power, but it looked beautiful upon first application. Score!

3. Palmetto Dermo Collagen Booster and Restoration Serum

Teeny tiny sample, but serum goes a long way. I haven’t tried it yet, but it smells a bit odd, and is kind of oily. I will have to report back on how good it is!

4. Derma E Microdermabrasion Scrub

Deluxe sample worth $16.00, and it smells like lemons. Yummy. This contains dead sea salt and volcanic sand. We’ll see!

5. Only Goodness Inside deodorant

I haven’t tried this yet, and I have to say, I’m skeptical. A previous flirtation with natural deodorants in the past was shortlived, to say the least. However, if it does work I’ll be thrilled; I’d much rather not have to rely on aluminum to keep me smelling luuurrveely.

Overall, I feel like the value is great, and I’m excited to try some new brands. The box also contained a coupon for a free shower gel from Shear Miracle Organics and 25% off any Palmetto Dermo brand. My favorite products thus far are the eyeshadow and the face scrub, but I may be pleasantly surprised by the others.
